Blessing Ceremony for Hanse 548
yacht blessing ceremony for a Hanse 548
A new adventure has begun!
A yacht blessing ceremony is a historic maritime tradition that celebrates the acquisition of a new vessel and invokes protection for its future voyages. We were honoured to join the new owners of ‘Kōtare’, along with their friends, to celebrate their unique blessing ceremony.
As part of the ceremony, the new owners Lance and Toni read a traditional Maori blessing, which beautifully tied together their New Zealand heritage, the beginning of their new life adventure, and the fulfilment of a very special dream to own a Hanse 548.
The name ‘Kōtare’ is the Maori word for the yacht’s original name, 'Kingfisher', and was carefully chosen as a symbolic evolution rather than as a simple renaming of this spectacular yacht.
Among the guests were the previous owner, Stephen, and his wife Nicky, who originally bought this yacht new from our team at Inspiration Marine Group. It was a joyous occasion for both owners to come together and celebrate the next stage of this yacht’s journey.
Toni completed the blessing by sprinkling New Zealand champagne over the bow, while everyone raised their glasses in celebration.
'Kōtare' will soon depart from Hamble Point Marina, ready for new horizons, and we wish Lance and Toni many fabulous adventures ahead.
"Fair winds and following seas."
